Biography

Pinkney Herbert received his BA from Rhodes College and his MFA from the University of Memphis. He has taught at the University of Memphis, University of Tennessee, and Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts, Penland School of Crafts, and the Memphis University School. He has been a visiting artist at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts, Hanoi University of Fine Arts, and the Oberfalzer Kuntzlerhaus (Germany). He is the director of Marshall Arts studio and gallery space in Memphis.

Mr. Herbert is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Tennessee Arts Commission, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. He has participated in numerous art exhibitions throughout the US, Europe, and Southeast Asia. His art is in numerous corporate and private collections and in the permanent collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, Memphis Brooks Museum, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and the Arkansas Arts Center. He has juried exhibitions at the Memphis Brooks Museum, the University of Mississippi, Arkansas State University, the Memphis Arts Festival, and the Winter Park Arts Festival. He is represented by David Lusk Gallery, Memphis; Sandler Hudson Gallery, Atlanta; and Lesley Heller Gallery, New York.
